West Akron is home to The Center for Applied Drama and Autism (CADA), a unique organization that specializes in helping its students prepare for life with individual and collaborative training through the arts. They have partnered with Ardmore, Inc., to develop Theatre on the Spectrum, an adult theatre company for people of all abilities.
@PLAY joined Theatre on the Spectrum for A Very Special Celebration of creativity and theatre, providing a unique collaborative mural specifically designed for the occasion.
Accessibility is a frequent concern among Akron residents, and not just those with disabilities. @PLAY created an inclusive collaborative mural experience that could be accessed and enjoyed by all. Our interactive mural was designed to be wheelchair accessible, and kicked off with a collaborative holographic collage. As the event progressed, the mural shifted into different opportunities for creative expression, including writing words of inspiration and empowerment, and painting.
The completed mural reflects the unique identity and vision of one of Akron’s most important creative community. Our goal is to make this work publicly accessible so more people can appreciate the special needs, passions, and aspirations of Akron’s greater population.
